Elsberry Defends Place as Lincoln County’s Top Golf Team While Hosting Sun Valley Invitational | Local Sports

Elsberry, Mon – Twenty different schools gathered in southwest Elsberry for a day-long golf tournament hosted by the hometown Indians.

Crazy spring weather presented the golfers with difficult conditions, which were only comforted by the bright sunshine.

Damp greens, gusts in excess of 20 miles per hour and an average temperature in the mid-40s Fahrenheit tested the athletes’ resolve and dedication to the sport. The top four scores per team for 18 holes were totaled to form a total score that represented the school’s overall performance.

The teams were divided into two divisions: Red and White. The White Division winner was St Dominic, who ousted Francis Howell Central with a single punch to take the team’s first place finish. Saint Dominic shot 339. Troy finished bottom in the division and shot a disappointing 448 total shots.

For the Red Division, Montgomery ranked first on the team with 359 shots, easily defeating his opponents. Bowling Green was second, finishing 19 strokes behind first. Winfield finished as a team with 433 shots, beating Wright City, MMA and Canton. The host Elsberry Indians finished 4th in their division and shot 410 shots as a team. They also have the lowest scoring of any Lincoln County team and proudly defend their home spot. This performance comes from displacing Silex, who was in 5th place with 415 total strokes.

In the singles results, bowling green Brayden Buffington showed he was playing on a whole different level, shooting 71 under par and making first place look easy. The next best result was a 79-stroke draw between Francis Howell Central and St Dominic. The only Lincoln County representative in the top 15 was Silex athlete Carter Johnston, who finished fifth overall at 84.
