The library story times are open to everyone who comes to us and wants to take part. Adults must wear a mask. Mondays at 4 p.m. afternoon story time for children from kindergarten through second grade; Wednesday at 10.30 a.m. toddler time for children aged 2 and 3 years; Thursday at 9:30 am Book Babies for children from birth to 2 years old; Thursday at 11am, Mixed Age Story Time, birth to preschool age.

The LACE Romance Readers Book Club meets every last Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. The selected book for September is “The Secret Story of the Pink Carnation” by Lauren Willig. Copies are available from reception.

Yoga returns on Saturday, September 18 at 10:30 am

Tai Chi has returned to the library. Visit us every Friday at 10 a.m. This course is beneficial for people with reduced mobility.

Classic Movie Monday returns on the last Monday of the month with Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The theme of the library card enrollment month is “The Kid,” or Baby Yoda, so we’re going to be seeing a classic from the 1970s this month.

LACE – Romance Readers Book Club meets every last Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. The book selected for September is “The Secret Story of the Pink Carnation” by Lauren Willig. Copies are available from reception.

Our Community Book Club meets every fourth Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. The selected book for August is “When time stood still: A memory of my father’s war and what remains” by Ariana Neumann. Copies are available from reception.

September is the month of registration for library cards. If you don’t already have ID, come by and log in. There will be many special events that will add to the celebration, such as a story walk and a gingerbread man disguise competition. Stop by the library to check it out.

We will host an indoor story walk around the book “A Big Surprise for Little Card” by Charise Mericle Harper, which will be displayed throughout the library. After the walk there is a little surprise.

The gingerbread man is still trying to hide from the little old man and the little lady. Help him by dressing him up as your favorite book character. Gingerbread man template available in the library.

Coffee Cup ‘O Goodies – We haven’t forgotten the adults we serve. Every time you check out books, you can win a coffee mug with a library gift. We are also giving away some tote bags.

Back to School Backpack Giveaway – The Friends of the Mount Airy Public Library is sponsoring a backpack competition. There is a backpack full of school supplies for every school level (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12). Check out a book to be eligible to participate. One entry per person per day. The drawing will take place on Monday, September 20th. You don’t have to be there to win.

The Friends of the Mount Airy Public Library is hosting a mini book sale during Mayberry Days. It will be on Thursday and Friday 23-24. September, be. Thursday 8.30 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday 8.30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Book sales take place in the courtyard.

A beautifully handcrafted quilt was donated to the Northwestern Regional Library System by Carol McDowell for use as a raffle prize. We and our sister libraries will be selling lots for $ 1 or $ 6 for $ 5. The proceeds will be used to purchase eBooks for the region. Tickets are on sale now, you can stop by the library to buy the tickets and see a picture of the quilt. The actual quilt will be exhibited during Mayberry Days.
