With a heavy heart and gratitude, a legacy continues with Catholic Charities> Diocese of Norwich

Catholic charities in the Diocese of Norwich suffered a great loss this week with the death of Ralph Monaco. Ralph was a New London attorney with Conway, Londregan, Sheehan & Monaco and served on the boards of Catholic Charities as well as many other outside organizations, boards and committees.

Ralph began working for Catholic charities 16 years ago while serving on the New London Advisory Committee. During his first year on the committee, he launched the Catholic Charities’ annual golf tournament, which continues to this day and is one of the largest fundraising events Catholic charities hold year-round. Ralph then joined our board in 2016, where he continued to support Catholic charities in their mission to serve those in need.

I was hired at Catholic Charites in October 2020 to plan their events. I was lucky enough to meet Ralph here. You say that people come into your life for a reason, sometimes very briefly. That’s how I feel about Ralph Monaco. He was a wonderful example of a true professional while allowing his warm heart and calm manner to shine through. He reminded me that people can have stature and refinement while exuding warmth and kindness. In all of our correspondence for the tournament, Ralph ended every email with “Thank you for everything you do”.

Now, Ralph’s legacy will live on through the Catholic Charities’ annual golf tournament. Our mission of “helping and creating hope” is the epitome of what Ralph represented. We will miss him very much and we will keep him and his family in our prayers.

The tour takes place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday July 15th at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook. The funeral service is celebrated at 11.30 a.m. Friday, July 16, St. John Roman Catholic Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook.
