The Electric City Kennel Club is hosting its Big Sky Fall Cluster

GREAT FALLS – One of the oldest sports in the country has returned to Great Falls in the form of the Electric City Kennel Club’s Big Sky Fall Cluster, a week-long dog show with a variety of events for dogs of all breeds.

The Kennel Club was founded in 1949 and has seen many dog ​​days. Four of these dog days will take place this weekend, as more than 400 dogs take part in various events and more than 100 breeds are also present this weekend.

The event was canceled last year due to Covid, but this year more people are back looking forward to showing Great Falls what their dogs can do.

Kennel Club Treasurer Christian McClelland said the event has been going on for more than 60 years and that this year will be a good turnout as the show failed to take place last year.

“Entries have increased a bit just because people are so ready to go back to normal and they are really excited to be here too. It’s a great weekend and we all love to see other people and their dogs, ”said McClelland.
McClelland added that dog shows are one of the oldest sporting events in the country. The Westminster Dog Club is second only to the Kentucky Derby.

This is the age of a lot of people who have trained dogs over the years and the current generation is a part of that too. Kindra Shannon is a third generation dog trainer who learned the tricks of the trade from her grandmother and mother and is ready to be back in her hometown and show off her dogs.

She’s showing a Leonberger this year named Roman, which she thinks is the largest breed she’s worked with but had a good year going back to shows with her family.

“My grandma started when I was 16 or 17 and my mother was born into it. She started when she was three and I’ve been showing dogs since I was four, ”Shannon said. “2020 was really a downer for everything because there weren’t any shows, but I’m much happier now to show my dogs and I’ve been to a lot of different shows this year.”

Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and Fall Cluster made sure everyone can attend this weekend to show off their stuff. The autumn cluster runs until the 21st and some events also have registrations on the same day.
