Shaker Village is hosting the Harvest Festival this weekend

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is hosting its annual Harvest Festival this weekend.

The event, sponsored by Foundation Risk Partners, will take place on both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This down-to-earth fall celebration is family-friendly with something for everyone.

Activities include hay wagon rides, pumpkin painting, pony rides, haystack climbing, farm games, archery and a hay maze. Shoppers can buy local honey, bread, jams and more at the on-site Harvest Market. Farm animals will be in the paddocks to interact with visitors.

The event also offers a unique learning environment with demonstrations of cider pressing, sorghum milling, hemp working and blacksmithing.

Live musical performances will be shown throughout the event. Food trucks are available for lunch and snacks, as well as an outdoor bar for adult drinks. Other dining options include reservations at The Trustees’ Table restaurant and a take-away selection from the Post Office Shop.

Admission to Harvest Fest is included with general admission to Shaker Village, which grants access to historical tours and exhibitions. Admission is $14 for ages 13-61, $7 for ages 6-12, and $10 for seniors, first responders, and active-duty military. Admission is free for children under the age of 5.

Shaker Village also has fall events every weekend in September and October:

• Hayrides – Hop on a Hayride and discover how the Shakers’ beliefs defined theirs community. Every Friday and Saturday from September to October at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $5 Ages 6 and up and free for children under 5.

• Spirit Strolls – Take a guided, lantern-lit walk to the 1811 Shaker Cemetery This way, you’ll learn about some of Pleasant Hill’s darker moments and learn more about the Burial traditions of this now-defunct community. Every Friday and Saturday September-October at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for annual pass holders and $15 for non-annual pass holders.

• Music on the Lawn – The Trustee Lawn is the place to be every Friday and Saturday Evening from 5:30pm-8:30pm, September-October. Get a drink from the outdoor bar, Gather around the fire pit and settle in for an outdoor concert from local and regional guests Musician. Admission is free.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is a landmark that shares 3,000 acres of discoveries in the spirit of the Kentucky Shakers. With 34 original Shaker buildings, the site is home to the nation’s largest private collection of original 19th-century buildings and is the largest National Historic Landmark in Kentucky.
