Hello Manistee County! We have had so many beautiful autumn days in the past week and it looks like great weather for the next week or two. I love the cooler nights and mornings, there is nothing better than opening the windows and smelling the fresh air.

There’s so much going on in the Wagoner Community Center that I can’t hold everything right.

Last Friday, Johnny O ‘did a great job at Wheelin’ & Dealin ‘. There was a huge crowd ready to have fun and they were really having fun. Dakotah, John’s gorgeous daughter, was the girl with the awards and honestly I don’t think there is a more beautiful girl. Thank you again John and Dakotah for all of your time, talents, and most of all, the fun.

This week we were able to welcome a new employee to the crew. Nanette (Netters) Cooper is going to be our new receptionist at the Council on Aging and I think you will agree she will be a great addition. Stop by and say hello to this wonderful lady.

On Wednesday we had Mark Cameron, the fire chief of the Manistee Fire Department, as our prominent bingo caller. Mark did a great job and everyone really enjoyed it. Did you know that September is fall prevention month and I know that Mark and his crew provide a lot of information about falls and their prevention. If you are an older adult, avoid throwing carpets or string across your floor. It’s easy to stumble on them. I know so many people who tripped over carpets and ended up in the hospital. Thank you Mark for coming and spending your time with us at Manistee County Council on Aging.

Yesterday we had our senior board. This is the time we can slow down a little, visit and see how everyone is doing. Our Food Bank is open to all Manistee County seniors who could use some help. We are always happy to see how we can give something back to our community and make a difference. Plus we have so many wonderful volunteers helping us set everything up and ready to go, helping the seniors and even carrying bags to people’s cars. Without all of them, none of this would be possible. Thanks to all; to those who donate to the board, who volunteer, and who come to help a little, you are great.

I just checked the calendar and this week is going to be pretty busy too.

On Mondays we have flu shots with Rite Aid from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you would like to have your flu shot, give us a call first thing Monday morning to see if we still have free places.

Tuesday there is Cards & Coffee with Maureen. She brings all the supplies so you can make some lovely greeting cards to send to friends and family. Give us a call if you want to participate.

On Wednesday we have a training on financial abuse prevention at the Wagoner Community Center. To register for this training, call Judy Crockett, Community Coordinator, at 231-723-7914.

Thursday is full all day. You could start with Sit & Get Fit, play cribbage, play bunco, have lunch, and then join a game of chess. There are many options in the Wagoner Community Center.

Friday we celebrate September birthdays after lunch at 12:30 p.m. So if you’re a September baby, drop by for a slice of birthday cake.

Remember, there won’t be chair yoga, regular yoga, or cardio drumming this week. Our cute new teacher Bre will be on her honeymoon next week. but we will be ready to be back on schedule for the next week. Our drum course will move up a bit, we start on Thursdays at 5:45 p.m.

We just learned that we will be hosting a Holiday Craft Show on Saturday 4th December at the Wagoner Community Center. We got so many calls because the Sleighbell Craft Fair was canceled this year. If you have any questions, you can call us at 231-723-6477.

Have a nice week and don’t forget to try something new!
