September 25th – Marc Martel and “The Ultimate Queen Celebration” will be released in Owensboro.

The 44-year-old Canadian rocker will lead the pack for “an explosive, attention-grabbing tribute that collides some of the most iconic rock anthems of all time with a theatrical performance style and stunning production.” 29 at the RiverPark Center.

The tribute focuses on Queen’s best-known songs while drawing on other genres that the late frontman Freddie Mercury explored towards the end of his life, such as opera arias, which Martel describes as the “Greatest Hits Show with a Twist”.

“I think we can all agree that Freddie Mercury’s voice is one of the greats, but Marc Martel is practically a reincarnation,” said Grae Greer, director of marketing and education for the RiverPark Center. “You won’t be disappointed. We’ve had a lot of cast over the past 29 years, but ‘The Ultimate Queen Celebration’ is unlike anything we’ve had before. If you close your eyes you would think it’s Freddie.”

Originally from Montreal, Martel began his career in the music industry in the late 1990s as the lead singer, guitarist, and pianist for Christian rock group Downhere. The band’s 2001 self-titled debut album won a Juno Award for Best Gospel Album and the Gospel Music Association (GMA) Canada Covenant Award for Rock Album of the Year.

Martel stayed with the band for 13 years, touring and releasing five more albums before taking a hiatus in 2011. During this time, Martel was encouraged by friends and family to apply for original Queen member Roger Taylor’s video talent competition to find a musician to star in the live tribute touring band “The Queen Extravaganza “, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the band.

Martel’s Audition, a cover of the band’s hymn “Somebody to Love” from 1976, put Martel at the top of the contenders and received over three million views (now 22.4 million) in the first week, followed by an appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres- Show.”

Martel was selected for the tour.

After six years and over 160 shows, Martel founded “The Ultimate Queen Celebration” in 2017 while juggling a solo career, released the modern rock record “Impersonator” in 2014 and the Christian-oriented extended piece “The Silent Night” in 2016 and at the front of “Symphonic” Queen “with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico (OFUNAM) in Mexico City.

Martel can also be heard in the Oscar-nominated film “Bohemian Rhapsody”, who brings in his singing talent.

Greer said the RiverPark team is just as excited as the public.

“The staff and I checked out all of Marc Martel’s YouTube videos this week in preparation for his show,” said Greer. “This homage to the legendary band is breathtaking and will make you feel like you’re back with the original band.”

While the goal is to rock the crowd with Martel and Co., health and safety are top priorities.

“RiverPark Center requires masks in the building,” Greer said. “For the safety of our employees, performers and guests, we ask everyone to wear a mask when attending the performance.”

Tickets for the event are available at riverparkcenter.org.
