Summer is drawing to a close and temperatures are dropping – soon it will be time to move into autumn.

And what could be nicer than enjoying the spirit of the season than dusting off your winter coat, putting on your rubber boots – and having the kids pick pumpkin?

From glittering pumpkins to traditional carvings and costumes, there is something for everyone in Lancashire.

The Pumpkin Picking Adventure, Windmill Animal Farm, Burscough

A day of fun on the farm and pumpkin picking is offered on this idyllic, family-friendly farm. Home to an impressive variety of rare breeds and exotic farm animals, where you can experience everyday working life on the farm, watch and feed animals and visit playgrounds, the family farm opens its doors this October for their annual pumpkin picking adventure.

The ticket includes full-day entry to Windmill Animal Farm as well as pumpkin picking, which allows you to pick your own pumpkin from the fields where it is grown and visit the pumpkin field at any time during your visit.

You get one pumpkin per ticket, but you’re welcome to buy more.

Prices start at £ 15.95 for an adult and £ 16.95 for a child, although babies under one year old, retirees and carers are free.

Roby Mill Pumpkin Patch, Johnson’s Farm, Skelmersdale

This family-run farm is holding its family-friendly pumpkin picking event from October 8th to 31st.

Fresh air and the wonderful, picturesque location of this peaceful Upholland farm make it a perfect opportunity to pick up seasonal pumpkins between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. every day.

With a variety of pumpkins from smooth to warty, orange to white, Roby Mill Pumpkin Patch also offers pumpkin items in a marquee along with painted glittering and gold pumpkins and carving sets.

A classic Citroen van specially purchased for the pumpkin harvest season provides delicious snacks and warm treats.

Entry and parking are free, and pumpkin prices start at £ 2.

Organizers say they can’t wait to welcome people back to pumpkin picking at a safe, socially detached event, with online pre-registration required on the farm’s Eventbrite page for weekends and half-year. A booking is not required outside of these dates.

Church View Farm, Southport Road, Lydiate

Pumpkin picking will open in this picturesque location on Saturday, October 2nd and will last until October 31st – or until the pumpkins are used up.

A hot food delivery truck offers snacks, there is a fairground and ice cream truck, while wheelbarrows are provided for the pumpkins so you can catch the spirit of the season.

The farm shop itself sells fresh fruit and vegetables from the region and has a meat cart on the first Sunday of the month.

The opening times for the pumpkin harvest are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Farmer Ted’s Pumpkin Festival, Flatman’s Lane, Ormskirk

Creepy thrills and chilling are on offer at the Farmer Ted’s Pumpkin Festival, which opens in October.

On the grounds of the famous “Farmaggedon” Halloween event, pumpkin picking takes place in the farm’s own pumpkin patch, along with a variety of exciting activities such as paintball, creepy ghost stories, costume competitions, pumpkin carving and many other competitions.

Additionally, the farm’s usual activities, including the Shaun the Sheep adventure and mini-beast center, will be open during the event, which runs October 2-31.

Prices start at £ 11.50 for adults and £ 15.50 for children two and over, including a pumpkin.

Bradshaw’s Farm Shop & Garden Center, Prospect Farm, Garstang

Put on your rubber boots and grab a coat for family-friendly pumpkin picking at this family-run farm shop and garden center that specializes in homemade and local fresh produce.

Pumpkin picking is possible every day in October, with bookings required for weekends and half years.

You don’t have to book for weekdays during semester time and tell the organizers that people can just come over on those days.

The opening times for pumpkin picking are from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

With the crowds flocking to Pumpkin Alley for the incredibly popular pumpkin picking event last year, organizers have now put in place a booking system to ensure this year’s event is safe and affordable at the same time.

With 15 acres of pumpkin fields and some that weigh up to 70 pounds, Pumpkin Alley is now on its 10th floorNS Year.

Based on Downholland’s Poplar Farm, which also specializes in growing sunflowers and other flowers, Pumpkin Alley grows many of its pumpkins organically, using dirt instead of pesticides.

And online booking was definitely introduced as the top priority for this year’s event. Families are £ 5 and £ 1 entry, but a free pumpkin is included.

Owner Joe Appleton said, “For me, safety always comes first – we have a 100 percent safety record.
