Montreal’s Parc Frédéric-Back hosts a free Creole music festival

From July 22nd to 24th, you can celebrate Creole music and culture at Parc Frédéric-Back in Saint-Michel. For its ninth edition, the Festival International Mizik Kreyol de Montréal invites Montrealers of all ages to enjoy tropical sounds … for free!

This year’s lineup includes well-known artists from the Creole music industry, including Nu-Look, Djapot, Fly, Katel Mizik, Ekip, 911 Konpa, Florence El Luche and more. In addition to the concerts, the venue will include outdoor food and drink kiosks, on-site entertainment, inflatable structures and face painting for children.

Traditional Creole dishes such as Haitian griot, patties, sticky rice and fried chicken are served at up to six food stalls. Thirsty festival-goers will find alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the bar, including cocktails with Caribbean rum, beer and cognac. Prices vary from $8 to $15 per meal.

Laurraine Leblanc, event organizer and speaker, told MTL Blog that this new free format makes it particularly accessible to the whole community. She also hopes the event will inspire young people aspiring to work in the entertainment industry.

“It is the first time that a three-day festival takes place in Parc Frédéric-Back. It was important to us to stay in Saint-Michel, home to a significant Haitian community living in Montreal.”

Participants are encouraged to use public transportation as the park has limited parking.

Those wanting to keep partying after the shows can buy tickets online and attend four after-parties at Complexe La Providence. Tickets are available at the box office unless they are sold out before the event.
