James V. Brown Library Hosts Summer Learning Finale with Scholastic Book Fair | News, Sports, Jobs

Third St. on Friday, August 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Andy will be giving away free meal vouchers as part of the James V. Brown Library’s Scholastic Book Fair celebrating the end of the summer reading program. The two-day event begins at 11:30 p.m. on August 5th and ends at 1:30 p.m. on August 6th. The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., is celebrating all of the children who participated in the summer learning program during a Scholastic Book Fair finale scheduled for August 5-6.

Children who return their bingo sheet (available at any information desk) will receive a voucher for a free book at the library’s Scholastic Book Fair and a sweet treat from Aaron’s Water Ice. Children who haven’t completed their reading log but still want to celebrate can still purchase books and treats.

Children’s books are in the programming rooms on the first floor and tween/teen/young adult books are in the Lowry Room on the third floor. Throughout the event there will be additional fun games and prizes such as: B. a quiz game and a scavenger hunt, so be sure to check it out!

The opening hours of the Scholastic Book Fair are:

• 11:30am to 8:00pm Friday (Kids First Friday), August 5th

• Saturday 6 August, 9.30am to 1.30pm

Other events planned during the celebration include:

• Mr. Music Free Family Show – Friday 10:30am and 1:30pm.

• Aaron’s Water Ice – Friday 11:30am to 2pm and Saturday 9:30am to 1:30pm on Alley Edwin Street.

• Texas Roadhouse’s Andy Armadillo with free meal coupons – Friday 1pm-2pm.

• Free Celtic Wood and Wires Family Concert – Saturday 10:30am – 12:00pm at Alley Edwin Street.

• Wizard Brent Kessler Family Show – Saturday from 11:00am to 11:45am.

• Performance by musician Izzy Butters from Uptown Music Collective – Saturday 12-1pm at Alley Edwin Street.

The Library is the perfect place to cool off after Kids First Friday – families can borrow a toy from our Toy Lending Library or Board Game Collection to take home for extra weekend fun. The bathrooms of the children’s areas on the first floor will be open to the public during Kids First Friday.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the James V. Brown Library.

The Brown Library is part of a national “Libraries are transforming” Efforts to raise awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways in which libraries are changing to meet the information needs of their users.

The Brown Library is the 2021 PA Library of the Year.
