In 2004, Hawk Host decided it was the perfect time to spread your wings and soar into electronic heaven. Although the name Hawk Host came later (until 2008 they were called Devoted Host), the company was founded with headquarters in Fergus, Canada and has since been offering shared hosting, cloud hosting, reseller hosting, semi-dedicated hosting and VPS solutions for everyone Types of businesses.

According to Hawk Host, the best web hosting solution is one where the services themselves know how to recover from common problems, unlike other hosts who require corrections from people. We have to agree to this, even if the statement is somewhat reducing. In addition, they claim to monitor the “health” of all of their servers day and night to ensure timely response to potential problems.

They currently manage and maintain seven data centers in Europe, North America and Asia. They are located in: Toronto (Canada), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Los Angeles, New York and Dallas (USA), Hong Kong (China) and Singapore (Singapore).

Aside from the presence of Hawk Hosts cheerful, hawk-like mascot that gives us thumbs up, their website is simple in design and fairly user-friendly. Your blog feels like a blast from the past with its old-fashioned visual style and tiny letters, but when it comes to its content, Hawk Host is ahead of the curve. This may not be the most active blog we’ve seen, but since 2007 Hawk Host’s bloggers have been posting news, updates, and guides (every now and then) at least monthly, so we should give them some sleep.

Both the Hawk Host website and blog are only available in English. As for the social media platforms, Hawk Host can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, but none of their profiles feel active enough.

Pricing

Plans and Pricing

Hawk Host’s hosting plans are quite affordable, which means a lot when you consider that they cover everything from basic shared and cloud hosting to reseller, VPS, and cloud-based semi-dedicated hosting solutions . There are currently two plans for shared hosting, five for cloud hosting, three for resellers, five for VPS, and two for semi-dedicated servers.

The most practical option is the shared hosting plan called “Primary” and for $ 2.99 alone it includes some cute unlimited features (bandwidth, domains, databases and SSL certificates), 10 GB of storage (SSD), proactive malware scanning and defense, and (on top of everything) a free drag-and-drop website builder from Weebly.

All of these plans come with a standard 30-day money-back guarantee that should put the most hesitant of us at ease.

As payment methods, Hawk Host supports credit cards, PayPal, AliPay and (which we don’t see often enough) Bitcoin and Ethereum.

user friendliness

In addition to the list of unlimited features, all of Hawk Host’s hosting plans come with free migration support that is always nice to see. These plans are detailed, including all software and technical specifications.

Once you decide on the optimal plan, start the registration process where the first step is your domain name (you can register a new one, transfer an existing one, or use it as it is while you update your nameservers). Since there is no domain name among Hawk Host’s free features, you have to pay the price (i.e., if you don’t own one) and it can cost you anywhere from $ 13.95 to $ 59.95 for a year. After solving the initial domain name problem, you can set up an unlimited number of add-on domains, parked domains, and subdomains.

The steps below require that you decide on a billing cycle (monthly, yearly, or every two years), server location, and some of the suggested add-ons (additional GB of RAM, GB of hard drive space, DDoS protected dedicated IP or ID protection) for extra money. To complete the process you will need to enter a range of personal information, create a password, fill in all the details of the payment method you are using and decide whether you want to leave additional information.

With all of its shared hosting plans, Hawk Host offers Linux-based cPanel as the control panel of choice, which is welcome news for any non-masochistic person who wants to enjoy all of the benefits of an easy-to-use interface. Those with reseller plans will have to settle for WHM, however, and VPS users will have to settle for Hawk Host’s custom control panel, which (actually) seems pretty handy.

One-click installations

With Softaculous and Fantastico provided, useful apps like WordPress, Magento, Drupal, Joomla and many more are just a click away.

Website builder

The involvement of Weebly’s website builder is a huge plus (Image credit: Weebly)

Alternatively, you can use the Weebly Website Builder to build your website. With its drag-and-drop style editor, easy-to-use interface, and tons of templates, you’ll soon be on your way to making your dream website a reality.

performance

We used GTmetrix to measure the uptime and responsiveness of Hawk Host’s main website (Image credit: GTmetrix)

Speed and experience

Let’s assume, with a highly questionable analogy, that if a hawk is one of the fastest members of the bird kingdom, then Hawk Host should be one of the fastest web hosting providers out there (right?). Additionally, Hawk Host themselves claim that their shared hosting solutions are “fast, powerful, and budget-friendly”.

With that in mind, we decided to test the speed of their main website (via GTmetrix) and wait for the results with patience and optimism. A minute later, GTmetrix presented us with an A (97%) which is among the best speed performances we’ve seen in a while. The full page load time was 3.0 seconds (the average result is 8.2) and all key web metrics except one (cumulative layout shift was 0.4 seconds, with less than 0.1 recommended) were well above average.

With Hawk Host, you get a 99.9% SLA-backed uptime guarantee, which is not a lot, but is good nonetheless. After monitoring the Hawk Host website uptime for a full month (via UptimeRobot), we got pretty encouraging results.

support

Hawk Host claims that their support staff are available 24/7 to provide help with all kinds of issues. They can be reached by phone, live chat, ticket, online contact form and email. However, the live chat doesn’t always seem to be “alive” as nobody was on duty when we tried to get in touch. Discouraged by this, we decided to ask them a few questions about the ticket system and got our answer (and a suitable one) within an hour.

If you value self-sufficiency above all else, Hawk Host has a blog, knowledge base, and status page (for news, product updates, and all alerts) and a community forum. This forum feels alive and active, with all of the questions answered for the most part accurately by the Hawk Host staff.

support

You can submit a ticket, read the latest news, or access the Hawk Host knowledge base through the Helpdesk (Image credit: Hawk Host)

The Hawk Host knowledge base is accessible through a section titled “Help Desk” where you can submit a ticket or get the latest news. The knowledge base itself uses a familiar, user-friendly layout and comprises a total of 207 articles, most of which are fairly easy to understand.

The competition

While both hosts can be called good business for first-time users, Hostinger offers web hosting solutions that are more feature-rich than Hawk Host’s. Both include free SSL, one-click installer, automated backups, and drag-and-drop website builders, among other things (though it’s not free with Hostinger). However, Hostinger gives you free domain registration on all plans except the cheapest (and the second cheapest is $ 2.59 per month, which is also pretty pocket-friendly), while Hawk Host doesn’t have a free domain. Additionally, Hostinger offers Minecraft server hosting as an option for all of the enthusiasts out there, while Hawk Host doesn’t.

Hawk Host’s beginner-friendly shared hosting plan is a little cheaper than HostGator’s, but both offer an attractive list of unlimited features, free domain and website transfer, easy installation, free SSL, standard money-back guarantee, and free website builder. However, HostGator can provide its users with fully dedicated servers, while Hawk Host would have to be content with semi-dedicated servers.

Bluehost and Hawk Host are somewhat similar in terms of hosting options, features, and prices. However, Hawk Host is a little stronger when it comes to customer support and unlimited features (bandwidth, databases, domains, and SSL certificates), while Bluehost has fully dedicated server hosting, a little more apps for one-click installation, and gives users free domains who subscribe for at least one year.

Last but not least, GoDaddy is one of the best-known web hosting companies in the industry, making it another strong competitor to Hawk Host. Although GoDaddy offers a full range of hosting services that can cover most bills, the entry-level plan leaves a lot to be desired. When your needs are simpler and you have a budget to worry about, give Hawk Host a try.

Final verdict

Most of all, Hawk Host feels like a decent web hosting provider that has a lot to offer to small and medium-sized businesses, as well as bloggers on a tight budget. In addition to a wide range of hosting options, some fantastic unlimited features, seven worldwide data centers to choose from, and powerful performance, Hawk Host has great staff (even if it is slow to respond at times) to support you.

If you’re still not sure whether they are worth checking out, take a look at hosts like HostGator, Hostinger, and Bluehost before making a decision. Since all of these hosts (including Hawk Host) come with a long money back guarantee, you don’t have to worry too much at night.
