Hawaii Farmers Union United is hosting the 11th Annual Convention in December

Hawaii Farmers Union United (HFUU), a leading statewide agricultural organization and registered section of the National Farmers Union, is holding its 11th annual meeting starting December 9, 2021.

The convention is open to members and non-members from Hawaii and around the world. It will feature a series of virtual events, including farm tours in Hawaii and in-depth discussions with nationally renowned agricultural experts.

“We invite everyone who values ​​local regenerative food systems, including farmers, gardeners and foodies, to sign up for this popular annual event,” said HFUU President Vincent Mina. “This year we expanded the convention to include pre-convention breakout discussions on soil health, hemp and mushrooms.”

The convention is accessible for a donation on HFUU.org. Support is provided by individual sponsors. Sponsorships are available and desired.

The highlights include:

  • Breakfast sessions with expert moderators Ray Archuleta (seen in the Netflix documentary “Kiss the Ground”), Dan Kittredge (developer of the open source bio-nutrient meter) and Christopher Nesbitt (agroforestry expert from Belize). The sessions are presented by the Hale Akua Retreat Center on Maui.
  • Afternoon farm demonstration videos. Farms will be featured on each of the three days, including: Maui Bees in Kula; Kahanu Aina Greens in Wailuku; Hoku Nui Farm in Makawao; and Lapa’au Farm in Olinda. The sessions will feature HFUU’s statewide soil health initiative at Hawaii Taro Farm and Mahi Pono, as well as live Q&A with farmers and 13 HFUU chapter presidents.

On the last day of the congress, meetings with HFUU leadership on organizational policy, business and awards will take place with the election of the HFUU Vice President in 2022. All speakers, farmers and HFUU organizers will follow health and safety measures in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines.
