Green hosting online nutrition courses in January


About one in three people has prediabetes, but most don’t even know they have it, according to the Federal Disease Control Centers. Diabetes prevention is just one of many free online nutrition courses offered by the Verdant Health Commission. Get a jump start on your 2022 health goals by signing up for these free virtual courses in January:

Cooking demo – extinguishing heartburn, 6-7 p.m. Jan. 10

Perhaps you know that discomfort in your chest all too well – that painful burning sensation that keeps you from relaxing and enjoying yourself during or after a meal. Learn about common foods and factors known to contribute the most to heartburn, and explore low-acid cooking methods to reduce heartburn. Learn how to relax and improve digestion during meals.

Mushrooms – the money-saving meat alternative, 2:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This course features one of America’s hearty ingredients, mushrooms. Discover hearty winter dishes with mushrooms as a meat alternative without breaking the bank.

Cooking demo – simple soups, 6-7 p.m. January 19

Celebrate National Soup Month with a cooking demonstration featuring a trio of simple plant-based soups. Discover a creamy sweet potato and paprika soup, a mason jar of ramen, and a spicy black bean soup. Learn how easy it can be to make tasty, nutritious soups in minutes.

Little Steps to Healthy Habits, January 24th, 12 noon-1pm

Building successful habits doesn’t have to be daunting. In fact, long-term changes are often most successful when made in small adjustments that can accumulate over time. Chat with us about some of the latest techniques for making sustainable change and setting goals for 2022 under the guidance of a registered nutritionist.
