The R-rated animated series Harley Quinn features gore, gallows humor, and other adult elements that allow her to make the most of her censorship-free home on the DC Universe streaming service. That is, until a recent Variety interview with co-creators and executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker revealed that there’s one place no DC superhero will go.

“… in this third season of ‘Harley’ [when] We had a moment when Batman cracked down on Catwoman, “Halpern said.” And DC said, “You can’t do that. You absolutely can’t do that. ‘ They say, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ “

Halpern discovered the main reason comic book giant Batman won’t have oral sex with Catwoman.

“So we said, ‘Are you saying that heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They said, ‘No, we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy when Batman is attacking someone too. ‘”

The animated series, which begins in 2019, follows the misadventures of Harley Quinn and her fellow villain Poison Ivy after Harley realizes that her boyfriend Joker doesn’t love her and breaks up with him.

The pushback has led social media reactions from Batman actors to DC directors.

“Canon” was everything Zack Snyder, the director of Justice League from HBO Max Max, tweeted along with a picture of … well, see for yourself.

“Did he or not he …?” previous Batman actor Val Kilmer tweeted along with a GIF from 1995 Batman Forever in which Nicole Kidman’s Dr. Chase Meridian tries to seduce The Caped Crusader. “We could try. I’ll bring the wine… ”she says.

“Thank you DC for making this Batman moment possible.” one tweeted.

History has also led to that more stories about Batman’s love life reappear.

“The recent news that Batman can’t condescend Catwoman got me to discover this adorable story of Adam West (The 1960s Batman) and Frank Gorshin being kicked out of a Hollywood orgy for not breaking character would. ” one wrote.

Even comic book writers got involved.

“There was also a little pushback when we shot the oral sex scenes from Green Arrow / Black Canary during my run @philhester and @andeparks 20 years ago. But my point about it @Dc comics The leading article read, ‘Oliver Queen Just Knows How To Make The Ladies Quake. Especially when it hits the mark, ”wrote Kevin Smith.

“* Checks out why Batman is trending * * Goes back to writing Nightwing, possibly a more … giving hero *” Tom Taylor wrote.
