The Dare County Library announced that it is now collecting canned goods and other non-perishable foods to be distributed to local Outer Banks food pantries during the month of October.

Last fall, in response to the unprecedented demand local blackboards were trying to meet in 2020, the Dare County Library locations served as a drop-off point to make it easier for users using the roadside library services to grab canned goods as well donate and non perishable food.

According to the Dare County Library, the public response to the October 2020 grocery drive was “tremendous” and inspired staff to re-approve the three locations as drop-off points for those wishing to donate items this season.

From now until the end of October 2021, individuals can drop off canned and non-perishable foods at any of the three Dare County Library locations during regular hours.

Library staff will then route any donated items to the Roanoke Island Food Pantry, Hatteras Island Food Pantry, and Beach Food Pantry, depending on the library location where the items were donated.

The Dare County Library locations have reopened to provide limited indoor library service. As of August 12, 2021, face coverings must be entered at all Dare County facilities regardless of an individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status. Roadside pick-up is also available.
