Cottage Grove Sentinel | Lane County is hosting a public hearing on Aug. 9 to enact a five-year local option park levy

August 4, 2022 — The Board of Lane County Commissioners is holding a public hearing regarding the possible referral of a five-year local option levy in support of county parks.

The public hearing will take place on Tuesday 9 August at 1.30pm. Attendees may attend in person at the Lane County Public Service Building at Harris Hall, 125 E. 8th Ave., Eugene, or remotely by using the minutes-in link on the meeting agenda under “Board of Commissioners Agendas.” at www.lanecounty.org.

After the public hearing, the commissioners are expected to decide whether to include the proposed levy in the November 8, 2022 vote.

In the 2018 Lane County Parks & Open Space Master Plan, the Board of County Commissioners set a core goal to “reinvigorate and revitalize select parks as thriving, family-friendly hubs for outdoor activities through redesign, renovation and programming to better position Lane County for top county for outdoor recreation and play.”

The proposed five-year levy of 16 cents per appraised $1,000 home would generate approximately $6 million per year for a total of $31 million over the life of the levy. The levy would improve and invest in parks, trails, water access, water quality and natural areas.
